Have you ever noticed that throughout the Scriptures how many times things are repeated? Yahuah repeats over and over again to guard and observe His Sabbath, to not profane it, to set apart His Sabbath. It is repeated over and over again that we are to keep His commandments. If we love Him we keep His commandments. Over and over again it is being repeated to follow Him. These are things that I noticed and I started wondering. Because the world teaches us that repetition is key. So when we keep repeating something it gets recorded into our beings. Like when you’re studying for an exam at school. Repetition is key. The more you repeat it, the more you know the better grade you get.
So the topic of meditation came up several times. I started noticing the word in Scripture and seeing video’s on YouTube about meditation in the Word. Coming from a background of eastern meditation I know that meditation works. When you repeat something over and over again, it starts becoming truth, even if it’s not! For you, in your mind it starts becoming truth. And remember the enemy either copies that which is of Yahuah and twists it to his wickedness or he does the complete opposite. And meditation is one of those things which he took and twisted. Instead of meditating on Truth, the enemy has you literally practice to shut of your intuition, your common sense. All this so he can fill your mind with New Age garbage. I know because I am speaking from experience.
The difference between meditation of the world and meditation on Yahuah’s Word, is that Yahuah’s Word is Truth. So when you meditate on Truth, you keep repeating and repeating the Word of Truth, which is the Word of Yahuah, which are the Scriptures. It gets anchored into your heart, into your being. And when the Word of Truth gets anchored into your heart, it becomes Truth for you. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s already Truth but it needs to become Truth for you. Your belief, faith, and trust in Yahuah need to grow.
So, on that note I decided to do a study on meditation. What do the Scriptures say about meditation? And why is it necessary to meditate, to know, to study, the Word of Yah? To hide the Word of Yah in your heart (Psalm 119:11).
So let’s dive into the living waters!
Definition of meditation: a written or spoken discourse expressing considered thoughts on a subject.
Synonyms for meditation: contemplation, thought, thinking, musing, pondering, considering, reflection, prayer, study.
What does the Word say about mediation?
Do not let this book of the Torah depart from your mouth but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you guard to do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and act wisely (Joshua 1:8). But his delight is in the Torah of Yahuah, and he meditates on it day and night (Psalm 1:2). Give ear to my words, Oh Yahuah, consider my meditation (Psalm 5:1). Yahuah has made Himself known; He has done Right-ruling. The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah (Psalm 9:16). Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart be pleasing before you, O Yahuah, my rock, my redeemer (Psalm 19:14). My heart was hot within me; while I was meditating, the fire burned, then I spoke with my tongue (Psalm 39:3). My mouth speaks wisdom. And the meditation of my heart brings understanding (Psalm 49:3). When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches (Psalms 63:6). And I shall meditate on all your work and talk of your deeds (Psalm 77:12). My meditation on Him is sweet. I rejoice in Yahuah (Psalm 104:34). I remembered all the days of old; I meditated on all your works; I ponder on the works of your hands (Psalm 143:5)
I meditate on your orders, and regard your ways (Psalm 119:15). Though princes sat, speaking against me, Your servant meditates on your laws (Psalm 119:23). That I might lift up my hands to Your Commands, which I have loved; while I meditate on Your Laws (Psalm 119:48). Let the proud be put to shame, for with lies they perverted me, I study You Orders. The KJV says: I meditate on thy precepts (Psalm 119:78). Oh how I love your Torah. It is my study all day long. The KJV says: Oh how I love thy law! It is my meditation all day! (Psalm 119:97). I have more understanding than all my teachers. For your Witnesses are my study. The KJV says: For thy testimonies are my meditation (Psalm 119:99). My eyes have gone before the night watches, to study Your Word. The KJV says: That I might meditate in Your Word (Psalm 119:148).
Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophesy with the laying on of the hands of the elder hood. Practice these matters; be in them, so that your progress might be plain to all. The KJV says: Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (1 Timothy 4:14-15).
Almost every time meditation is mentioned is in Psalms, and the Psalms are written by David, and David was a man after Yahuah’s heart. This doesn’t mean he never sinned but he did all things that Yahuah requires. David was a man after Yahuah’s heart because he did all Yahuah desired of him (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22). David trusted Yahuah (Psalm 27:1). He loved Yahuah (Psalm 18:1). He was obedient (Psalm 119:34). He was repentant (Psalm 25). He was humble (Psalm 62:9). He was reverent (Psalm 18:3). He was faithful (Psalm 23:6).
So why do we have to meditate and study the word?
Whom would He teach knowledge? And whom would He make to understand the message? Those weaned from milk, those taken from the breasts! For it is command upon command, command upon command, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little(Isaiah 28:9-10). The KJV says: To whom will he teach knowledge, and to whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, those taken from the breast? For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.
We have to know the Word, because it is all breathed out by Yahuah and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of Elohim may be competent, equipped for every good work (1 Timothy 3:16-17). His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). We have to hide the Word in our heart so that the wicked one cannot steal it from us (Matthew 13:19, Luke 8:12). We need to know the Word to not sin against Yah (Psalm 119:11)
When you know the Word of Yah, you are armed against the enemy. He comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). He comes to steal the word from you by trying to fill your mind with lies. Like He did to Chawwah (Eve) in the garden (Genesis 3:1-5). If you don’t know what the Word says, it is easy for the enemy to twist the Words of Yahuah and lead you astray. When you know the Word of Yah, you come into agreement with Him, you start living the Truth, and freedom follows. If the Son sets you free, you are free indeed (John 8:36). And you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free (John 8:32). Yahushua is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).
When you know the Word of Yahuah and are careful to do all that is written in it. You will make your way prosperous, and you will have good success (Joshua 1:8). When you don’t forget Yahuah’s teachings, but let your heart keep His commandments, they will add length of days and years of life and peace to you (Proverbs 3:1-2). We have to know His Word to discern the thoughts and intentions of our heart (Hebrews 4:12).
Everything was SPOKEN into existence by His Word (Genesis 1). He said “let it be”, and it was! Elohim made man in His image, in His likeness and blessed them and Elohim said to them: “Bear fruit and increase, and fill the earth and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over all creatures moving on the earth (Genesis 1:26-28).” So if Elohim spoke everything into existence and made us in His image and gave us the power to subdue everything on earth; and Yahushua tells us that if we have Faith the size of a mustard seed, and say to the mountain move from here to here, it shall move. And no matter shall be impossible for us (Matthew 17:20). And what does it mean to be His image and likeness? In Colossians 1:15 we can read that Yahushua Ha’Mashiach is the likeness of the invisible Elohim, the first-born of all creation, and Yahushua never sinned, He obeyed all commands. So to be the likeness of Yahuah you have to obey His commands, you have to know His Word, because then Elohim will bless you (Psalm 1:1-3).
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim. He was in the beginning with Elohim. All came to be through Him and without Him not even one came to be that came to be. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:1-5). He was the True Light, which enlightens every man, coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came to be through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the authority to become children of Elohim, to those believing in His Name, who were born, not of blood nor of the desire of flesh nor of the desire of man, but of Elohim. And the Word became flesh and pitched His tent among us, and we saw His esteem, esteem as of an only brought forth of a father, complete in favor and truth (John 1:9-14).
Yahuah established a covenant! And Yahuah keeps His Word! He is not man that He should change His mind (Numbers 23:18). But we also have to do our part. We have to come into agreement with His word. We have to BELIEVE (Mark 5:36). We have to live His truth, abide by His instructions (Deuteronomy 28). If we love our Elohim, we guard His command (1 John 5:2-4).And if we guard His commands, He blesses us.
The enemy comes to steal kill and destroy, and if you don’t know the Word of Yah, it is easy to get you confused. That’s why it’s necessary to ponder, to meditate, to repeat; to take certain verses, to see, to know when there are things bothering you in your life, when there are mountains in your life, and use these verses to counter the lies that are in your mind. You need to be able to identify the lies, the strongholds, you need to be able to go in the Word and search for Scriptures and start speaking Truth into your life. Because Yahuah spoke Truth; He spoke and it was and remember that you have the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy given to you by Yahuah through Yahushua Ha’Mashiach(Luke 10:19). If you have belief the size of a mustard seed, you shall say to the mountain, ‘move from here to there,’ and it shall move. And no matter shall be impossible for you (Matthew 17:20). But in order to do that you have to believe and there can be no doubt in your heart (Mark 11:23), and in order to believe you have to break down the strongholds, the lies that have been built up in your mind and in your heart your whole life. You need to break down the strongholds of this world with the Word of Truth. Just like in Jericho, they went around the city quietly for six days. On the 7th day they went around the city 7 times, blowing the rams horn, the 7th time they all shouted with a great shout and the wall of the city fell down flat (Joshua 6:1-21). They just screamed and the walls came down by the authority of Yahuah. We can see the elements Trust, Belief, and Faith in play here. And this is why we need to meditate. To break down those walls and to protect our minds, and our hearts by putting on the whole armor of Truth of Yah.
