The Way, The Truth, The life

Yahushua is the Way, the Truth, the Life. He says several times to “follow Him” (Matthew 4:19, 8:22, 9:9, 10:38, Mark 1:7, 2:14, 10:21, Luke 5:27, 9:23, 9:59, 14:27, 18:22, John 1:43, 8:12, 10:27, 12:26, 21:19). What does it mean to follow Him? What does The Way, The Truth, and The Life mean? And are these terms a new concept?

When I read Matthew 4:18-22 to Follow Him means to literally FOLLOW HIM. Peter and Andrew, and the 2 other brothers James and John literally left everything and followed Him without hesitation after Yahushua told them to Follow Him. They just left everything behind and followed Him. All the other apostles did exactly the same. Shouldn’t we be doing the same then too? He is our great example. In 1 John 2:6 it even says: The one who says he stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked. Isn’t it logical then to walk in His footsteps seeing the Father is delighted in Him (Matthew 3:17, Mark 1:11, and Luke 3:22)? And in Matthew 17:5 and Mark 9:7 and Luke 9:35 we are being told to HEAR HIM! And the Word even says the one who hears His Words and doesn’t do them is foolish (Matthew 7:26, Luke 6:49) We are to be set apart because the Father is set apart (Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:2; 20:7; 1 Peter 1:17). Yahushua is set apart so we are to be set apart.

Follow Me

Is what Yahushua keep repeating over and over again in the renewed covenant. Is this something new that we have to do? What does Scripture say. What does the old covenant say about “following Him”?

In Numbers 14:24 the Word days that Kaleb had a different spirit within him and has follow Yahuah completely. In Numbers 32:11 it says that not one man that came up from Mitsrayim, from 20 years old and above, is to see the land which Yahuah swore to Abraham, Yitsach, and Ya’acov, because the did not follow Him completely.

In Deuteronomy 7:4 Yahuah tells the Israelites what happens when they stop following Him to serve other mighty ones. His displeasure shall burn against you and promptly destroy you.

In 1 Samuel 15:11 Yahuah expresses to Samuel that it grieves Him that He has set up Sha’ul as sovereign, for he has turns back from following Him, and has not performed His Words.

“And you, if you walk before Me as your father Dawid walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, if you guard My laws and My right-rulings, then I shall establish the throne of your reign over Yisrael forever, as I promised Dawid your father, saying, ‘There is not to cease a man of yours on the throne of Yisrael.’ “If you at all turn back, you or your sons, from following Me, and do not guard My commands, My laws, which I have set before you, but shall go and serve other mighty ones and bow yourselves to them, then I shall cut off Yisrael from the face of the soil which I have given them, and send away from My presence this house which I have set apart for My Name. And Yisrael shall be a proverb and a mockery among all the peoples. “And this house, which has been exalted, everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and hiss, and say, ‘Why has Yahuah done thus to this land and to this house?’ “Then they shall say, ‘Because they have forsaken Yahuah their Elohim, who brought their fathers out of the land of Mitsrayim, and they embraced other mighty ones, and bowed themselves to them and served them. That is why Yahuah has brought all this evil on them.’ (1 Kings 6:4-9)

So, to “Follow Him” is not a new concept. Following Him means to guard His commands, His Laws, which He has set before us. It means to serve Him and Him only. Which is exactly what Yahushua Ha’Mashiach did and is exactly what we should be doing too.

The Way, the Truth, the Life

When I was Christian this was often repeated. “Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.” It was never explained to me what it means though. I just went with it because this is what I was being told by people who have been Christians for a very long time. So, I just believed what they said.  Now that I am walking with Yahuah I want to know what things mean. I don’t just believe what I am being told anymore…

The Way

When I am researching Scripture I always like to begin in the beginning…pun intended! 😊

If it is there in the renewed covenant it should be there in the old covenant. And we are to search a matter out when we don’t know something.

Yahuah has known Abraham to guard the way of Yahuah, to do righteousness and right ruling (Genesis 18:19). We are to guard to do every command which Yahuah commands us, to walk in His ways and to fear Him (Deuteronomy 8:6). Yahuah tells Mosheh to arise and quickly go down from the mountain because the people have acted corruptly. They have quickly turned aside from the way He commanded them and they have made themselves a molded image (Deuteronomy 9:12). Elohim is asking of us to fear Him and to walk in all His Ways and to love Him and to serve Him with all our heart and al our being (Deuteronomy 10:12). If we don’t obey the commands of Yahuah our Elohim, but turn aside from the way which He commands us we are cursed (Deuteronomy 11:28). Moses says to the people that he knows that after his death they shall do corruptly and turn aside from the way he has commanded them (Deuteronomy 31:29). After Yahuah has given Yisrael all the land which He had sworn to give to their fathers and gave them rest all around (Joshua 21:43-44) Joshua tells them to diligently guard to the command which Mosheh had commanded them which are; to love Yahuah your Elohim, and to walk in all His ways, and to guard His commands, and to cling to Him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your being (Joshua 22:5). Not all the nations were driven out before Yisrael. There were some left before Joshua died in order to try Yisrael by them, whether they would guard the way of Yahuah, to walk in them as their fathers guarded hem, or not (Judges 2:21-22). His way is perfect (2 Samuel 22:31).

To not walk in His ways is to do evil in Yahuah’s eyes (1 Kings 15:26, 15:34, 16:19, 16:26, 22:52, 2 Kings 8:18, 16:3

It was written by the prophets, “See, I send My Messenger before your face, who shal prepare Your way before you, a voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of YAHUAH, make His paths straight.”(Isaiah 40:3, Malachi 3:1, Matthew 3:3, Mark 1:3, Luke 1:76, 3:4, John 1:23)

The Truth

Yahuah is an El compassionate and showing favor, patient, and great in kindness and truth (Exodus 34:6). He is an El of truth and without unrighteousness (Deuteronomy 32:4). All the paths of Yahuah are kindness and truth, to those who guard His covenant and His witnesses (Psalm 25:10). His Truth is a shield and armor (Psalm 91:4). We have to turn back from our crookedness and study His Truth (Daniel 9:13) The Torah of Truth was in the mouth of Lewi and unrighteousness was not found on his lips (Malachi 2:6)

Yahushua taught the way of Elohim in Truth (Matthew 22:16, Mark 12:14). The one doing the truth comes to the light, so that his works are clearly seen, that they have been wrought in Elohim (John 3:21). True worshippers shall worship the father in spirit and in truth. Elohim is Spirit, and those who worship Him need to worship in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24). If you stay in His Words you are truly His taught one, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free (John 8:31-32). The Fathers Word is truth (John 17:17) who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4) The one who says I know Him, and does not guard His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him (1 John 2:4)

The Life

Yahuah gives us a choice between life and good, and death and evil (Deuteronomy 30:15). He has set before us life and death, the blessing and the curse (Deuteronomy 30:19). The command is a lamp, And the Torah a light (Proverbs 6:23). In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim. He was in the beginning with Elohim. All came to be through Him, and without Him not even one came to be that came to be. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men (John 1:1-4). Yahushua is the light of the world. He who follows Him shall by no means walk in darkness, but posses the light of life (John 8:12). He who believes in the Son possesses everlasting life, but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life (John 3:36). Yahushua is the bread of life (John 6:35; 6:51). Yahuah’s command is everlasting life. If you wish to enter into life, guard the commands (Matthew 19:17). Yahushua gave His life, His blood as ransom (Matthew 20:28, Mark 10:45

With Yahuah is the fountain of life (Psalm 36:9) and the Torah of the wise is a fountain of life (Proverbs 13:14). The fear of Yahuah is a fountain of life (Proverbs 14:27). The fear of Yahuah is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10) and whoever finds wisdom shall find life (Proverbs 8:35)

What I find interesting is that Scripture tells us that if we eat from the tree of life we will live forever (Genesis 3:22). It also tells us that the life of the flesh is in the blood (Genesis 9:4, Leviticus 17:11; 17:14, Deuteronomy 12:23). And we have to eat His flesh and drink His blood (John 6:54-56). The wages of sin is death; but the gift of Elohim is everlasting life in Mashiach our Master (Romans 6:23)

It also tells us that the Torah is life (Deuteronomy 32:46-47, Proverbs 3:1-2), and that we live by every Word that that comes from the mouth of Yahuah so the Word is also life (Matthew 4:4) and Yahushua is the Word (John 1:4). It is all interconnected and it’s so awesome. The Scriptures tell us that it testifies of Yahushua (John 5:39) and all over we can find these witnesses…it is so beautiful!

To Sum it all up.

Torah is The Way (Psalms 119:1), The Truth (Psalms 119:142), The Life (Deuteronomy 32:46-47, Proverbs 13:14)

Mashiach is the WAY, The TRUTH, and the LIFE (John 14:6)

Mashiach is TORAH (John 1:14)
